The Challenge

Tina Orr runs Moonbeams + Marigolds out of a shared commercial kitchen in Toronto, baking and hand-painting cookies as much like small works of art as anything you'd eat. Before this project, her story lived mostly in the product itself: anyone who tried one of her cookies at a market or pop-up understood it right away, but anyone who hadn't didn't have an easy way in.

Before This Project

Her social presence was mostly photos of finished cookies, with little sense of the process or the person behind them
There was no video content showing the craft, the painting, or the care that goes into each order
The project came together after Justin met Tina at a College Park pop-up, tried one of her cookies, and knew there was a story worth telling

Her goal: Attract new customers and build a stronger relationship with the ones she already had, by helping people understand what actually goes into each order and why.

The Story We Found

What We Discovered in the Strategy Session

Tina isn't just a baker. She paints her cookies by hand, and in an early creative conversation she floated the idea of shooting part of the film with her painting flowers in watercolour on paper. That was the signal that the real story wasn't a cookie business, it was an artist who happens to work in an edible medium.

Why This Angle, Not the Obvious One

The obvious version of this film is a product showcase: ingredients, finished cookies, maybe a taste-test reaction shot. Instead, we built the film around Tina's process and voice, treating the baking shift itself as the performance. The interview was scheduled at the very start of her shift, at her request, so she could speak openly and then move straight into an uninterrupted bake, protecting the authenticity of the footage that followed.

The Narrative Arc of the Film Itself

Open on Tina at work, painting and preparing. Turn into her own words about why she started and what she's building. Close on the finished product and the craftsmanship behind it, reinforcing that every order is made with intention, not just filled.

Key Creative Decisions

Scheduled the interview before the bake began, not mid-shift, so Tina could speak candidly and then fall fully into her process without breaking momentum for the camera
Let most of the baking shift run as it naturally would, capturing real process rather than staged re-creations
Chose a warm, instrumental score over more dramatic options, matching the tone of the story rather than the tone of "production value"
Folded in a couple of Tina's own photos of her painted cookies at her request during review, letting her see her own work reflected in the film
